I love fabric. I've always loved fabric.
I remember designing alongside my mother at an early age. She'd make herself an outfit, and I'd create something for myself from the scraps. It usually wasn't wearable...outside of the house...but it was mine.
People often ask, "Who taught you how to sew?" It generates a response that may be longer than desired, but one that's entirely necessary. My mother never gave me formal sewing lessons, but she totally taught me how to sew. I mimicked my mom's every move all the way down to how she held her pins. I remember being my own dress form, manipulating fabrics to my satisfaction, then inching over to my mom with pins sticking out of my mouth (sharp side poking out!) and saying, "Mommy, pin this, but make sure you don't pin up my split!"
I'm SO excited about Le'Lonnie Couture. For me, it's not just an opportunity to outfit women (hang in there men, it's coming!), it's an opportunity to make people feel good about themselves.
